LAKE CITY, Minn. — It was the final tune-up before the season-ending Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships for the Saint Mary's University women's golf team.
And Cardinal senior Katelyn Rizzi (Austin, Minn.) showed that she is as tuned up as she needs to be, shooting a two-day score of 167 to place 25th overall at the Division III Midwest Classic held at The Jewel Golf Club.
The rest of the Cardinals, however, may need a little more work under the hood before they tee it up in two weeks at the conference championships.
Rizzi opened the two day event with an 85, then followed that up with her best 18-hole round of the season, a second-day 82 to earn her 167 total.
Those two rounds, however, were the only rounds in the 80s for the Cardinals, who got a 188 (91-97) from Brittney Nielsen (Apple Valley, Minn.), 195s (99-96) from both Gia Puch (Des Plaines, Ill.) and Lauren Ulbrich (Rochester, Minn.), and a 198 (98-100) from Jenna Mrozinski (North St. Paul, Minn.) to round out SMU's top five.
Gustavus, led by medalist Kali Griggs, won the team title, firing a 318-310—628 to beat runner-up Wartburg by 20 strokes.
