WINONA, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University men's basketball team continues its busy week on Monday, as the Cardinals play their second game in three days, hosting Carleton in a 7:45 p.m. Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest at the SMU Gym.

Last Action: Will Wright (Chicago, Ill.) scored a team-best 17 points to lead three SMU players in double figures, but SJU's one-two punch of Sam Blank and Aaron Burtzel proved to be too much as SJU beat the Cardinals 69-62 Saturday in Winona, Minn. Carleton, meanwhile, had four players in double figures, including a season-best 19 points from Bryan Rosett, but the Knights still absorbed a 77-65 setback at Hamline Saturday.

A Year Ago: The Knights picked up a pair of conference victories against Saint Mary's during the 2008-09 season.

January 5, 2009:
Carleton outscored SMU by four points in the first half, taking a 30-26 halftime lead, then padded their first-half point production by 10 points to outscore the Cardinals by more four points in the second half in handing Saint Mary's a 70-62 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference setback in Northfield, Minn.

February 4, 2009: Carleton used a 25-7 run over the game's final 10 minutes to beat SMU, 68-50, in the teams' conference rematch in Winona, Minn.

Will Wright (Chicago, Ill.) scored a team-best 17 points in SMU's 69-62 loss to Saint John's Saturday. His 17 points moved him into 22nd place all-time in SMU career scoring with 1,068 points. Wright, who has now scored in double figures in 50 of his 55 collegiate games, has led the team in scoring in each of the last four games and six times in the Cardinals' first nine games. … Wright also led the team in rebounds vs. SJU with nine. … Lukas Holland (La Crosse, Wis.), who extended his consecutive games started streak to 56 vs. the Johnnies Saturday, finished with 12 points, while Chris Palmer (Faribault, Minn.) also scored in double figures vs. SJU with 13 points. … Palmer tossed in 12 points and pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds to record his first collegiate double-double vs. Bethel on Dec. 5. … SMU has had at least one 20-point scorer in seven of its nine games. …  The Cardinals enter today's game boasting three players averaging in double figures — Wright (18.6 ppg), Holland (17.1 ppg) and Palmer (12.3 ppg). … Holland leads the team with 18 3-pointers, while Holland (.857), Palmer (.821) and Wright (.818) are all shooting above 80 percent from the free throw line. … Today's game is the second of three in a five-day span for the Cardinals, who travel to Hamline on Wednesday.

Carleton Knight Notes: Saturday's 77-65 loss at Hamline Saturday snapped their two-game winning streak. … Today's game at SMU is the third straight road game for the Knights, who are 3-3 on the road this season. … The Pipers' 77 points were the second-most allowed by Carleton this season. The Knights had surrendered 80 in a three-point, 80-77 overtime loss to St. Olaf on Dec. 9. … Bryan Rosett, who became the 23rd Careton player to score 1,000 career points in the Knights' 69-47 win over Bethany Lutheran on Dec. 16, scored a season-best 19 points vs. the Pipers Saturday. He was one of four Carleton players who scored 10 or more points vs. Hamline. … Rosett, who had posted two double-doubles this season, leads a trio of Carleton players averaging in double figures with a 12.0 ppg average.
