MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — For the second game in a row, Amy Sibik (Onalaska, Wis.) found the back of the net, as the senior forward netted her team-leading 12th goal of the season Wednesday evening against Augsburg.

Unfortunately for the Saint Mary's University women's soccer team, for the second game in a row, Sibik's tally was all they offense they could muster, as Augsburg — fueled by a pair of second-half goals — handed the Cardinals a 3-1 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference setback at Edor Nelson Field.

“I thought we played very well tonight,” said SMU coach Eric Zimmerman. “The elements were tough — the wind definitely was a factor, but I thought we handled the conditions pretty well.

“We just made two costly mistakes (in the second half) and that proved to be the difference.”

Sibik got the Cardinals on the board just eight minutes into the opening half, drilling what Zimmerman called “a rocket” from 35 yards out that cleanly beat Augsburg goalkeeper Kate Gajewski.

That, however, would be the extent of the Cardinals' offense, as Augsburg knotted the game at 1-1 on a penalty kick by Courtney Gamrath in the 33rd minute, then got the eventual game-winner with 18 seconds remaining in the first half on a goal by Rachel Nelson. The Auggies would take on an insurance goal off the foot of Lacey Hoover in the game's 80th minute, as Augsburg officially elminated the Cardinals from post-season contention.

“We had our chances,” said Zimmerman, whose Cardinals fall to 4-5-1 in the MIAC and 7-8-1 overall heading into Saturday's season finale at St. Thomas. “The difference was, (Augsburg) made the most of theirs and we didn't.”
