Game Summary

WINONA, Minn. — Allen Mekash (Roseau, Minn.) stopped all 28 shots he faced in leading the Saint Mary's University junior varisty men's hockey team to a 3-0 shutout of Bottineau Saturday at the SMU Ice Arena.

Nate Percy (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) gave the Cardinals all the offense they would need with his first-period goal at 2:22. Alex Riverness (Hastings, Minn.) made it 2-0 five minutes later, and Josh Kaebel (Tremont, Ill.) gave the Cardinals some breathing room with his goal at 5:17 of the second period.

Mekash was at his best in the third period, stopping all 12 Bottineau shots to preserve the 28-save shutout. SMU finished with 27 shots on Bottineau goalie Troy Chandler.

The Cardinals, who improve to 6-2-2 overall, are now off until Jan. 22, 2011, when they host St. Thomas in a 7:30 p.m. contest.
