Game Summary
WINONA, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University junior varsity men's hockey team rallied from a 3-1 deficit with two goals in the first three minutes of the third period, but it was not enough, as the Rochester Ice Hawks beat the Cardinals 4-3 Sunday afternoon at the SMU Ice Arena.
The Ice Hawks raced out to a quick 2-0 lead with back-to-back goals in the game's first five minutes, but the Cardinals cut the gap in half before the period ended on a goal by Dan Billair (Mankato, Minn.).
Rochester regained its two-goal lead with the only tally of the second period, before SMU got a short-handed goal by
Mike Anderson (St. Paul, Minn.) eight seconds into the third and a powerplay goal by Billiar three minutes later to knot things up at 3-3.
The Ice Hawks' Shaun Walters broke the tie at 9:32 en route to their second win over the Cardinals this season.
Tim High (Goodview, Va.) fnished with 24 saves for the Cardinals, while Lawrence Dvorak also stopped 24 shots for the Ice Hawks.
The Caridnals are back in action next Friday and Saturday, hosting Dakota College at Bottineau for a 7:30 p.m. game on Friday and a 1 p.m. game on Saturday.
