ST. PAUL, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University fastpitch softball team, coming off a pair of nonconference losses to UW-La Crosse on Sunday, return to Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on Tuesday, traveling to St. Thomas for a 4 p.m. conference DH against the Tommies.

Last Action:
The Cardinals could not silence UW-La Crosse's mighty bats, as the Eagles belted three home runs en route to 8-0 and 5-1 nonconference victories over SMU Sunday at the SMU Field. St. Thomas, meanwhile, rolled to a pair of lopsided wins at Concordia Saturday, routing the Cobbers 12-2 and 10-1 in Moorhead, Minn.

St. Thomas silenced the Cardinals' bats in the teams' conference twinbill a year ago in Winona, Minn., as UST pitchers held SMU to just five hits in posting shutout wins of 7-0 and 8-0 at the SMU Field.

The Cardinals' 8-0 Game 1 loss to UW-La Crosse Sunday snapped their three-game winning streak. … Speaking of streak-snapping, Erin Stenseth (Eau Claire, Wis.) had her season-high 10-game hitting streak broken when UW-L held the Cardinal freshman hitless in three at-bats in the second game Sunday. … Stenseth finished the week hitting .467 (14-for-30), with four doubles, five runs and seven RBIs. … Joanna Mangan (Chicago, Ill.), who collected her first collegiate four-hit game against Macalester on Saturday, went 7-for-12 (.583) in five games last week and enters today's DH at St. Thomas with a team-best .436 batting average. … With her 14 hits in eight games last week, Stenseth pushed her batting average to .431. She also leads the team in hits (25), runs (11), doubles (7), total bases (32) and slugging percentage (.459). Stenseth also leads the team in multiple-hit games (7) and multiple-RBI games (4). … Stenseth has now hit safely in 15 of the team's 18 games and has reached base safely in 16 of 18. … Hanna Schmitt (Rosemount, Minn.) pushed her team-leading RBI total to 12 with a run-scoring single in the fourth inning of Game 2 vs. UW-La Crosse Sunday. … The Cardinals have allowed five or more runs in 11 of their 12 losses. … SMU has scored three of more runs in all six of their wins — including a season-high 11 runs vs. Macalester Saturday — while scoring two runs or less in 10 of their 12 losses. … Saturday's 11-6, eight-inning win over Macalester was the first extra-inning game of the season for SMU. … The Cardinals are 5-1 when scoring first, but 1-11 when their opponent plates the first run.

St. Thomas Tommies Around The Horn:

With their sweep of Concordia Saturday, the Tommies ran their winning streak to eight straight. UST has won 17 of its last 18 games. The Tommies have also won 14 in a row against conference opponents, dating back to April, 2009.… Four of UST's five losses have come against teams ranked in the NFCA Top 10 — including two one-run losses to Central (Iowa). … Over the last 11 seasons, UST has won the regular-season conference title eight times and finished second three times. She had a 34-game streak late in 2008 and early in 2009. … Wright has struck out just twice in 80 plate appearances this season. … Wilson and Sydney Marquardt boast a team-best 23 runs scored, while Marquardt also boasts team highs in doubles (11), home runs (3), RBIs (26), total bases (53) and slugging percentage (.768). She has also stolen seven bases in seven attempts. … As a team, the Tommies are hitting .344 and have stolen 42 bases. … Marta Radcliffe picked up both pitching victories vs. Concordia Saturday. The senior did not allow a hit or run in six innings, while walking two and striking out eight. … Radcliffe, one of eight UST players to pitch at least one inning this season, leads the pitching staff in wins (10), complete games (5), saves (1), innings pitched (81.1) and strikeouts (82).
