ST. PAUL, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University fastpitch softball team, coming off a pair of home nonconference losses to sixth-ranked Luther on Sunday at the SMU Field, returns to Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play Tuesday, traveling to Hamline for a 4 p.m. conference doubleheader against the Pipers.

Luther pitchers silenced the Cardinals' bats Sunday, as SMU managed just three hits — two in Game 1 and one in Game 2 — as the sixth-ranked Norse left SMU field with 8-0 and 2-0 nonconference victories. Hamline, meanwhile, battled to a conference split against Saint Benedict on Saturday, dropping the opener 4-3, while bouncing back for an 8-3 win in the nightcap in St. Joseph, Minn.

Kellie Simons (Richfield, Minn.) and Paige Carter (Rosemount, Minn.) accounted for SMU's two hits in their 8-0 Game 1 loss to sixth-ranked Luther Sunday, while Hanna Schmitt (Rosemount, Minn.) collected the Cardinals' lone hit — a first-inning single — in its 2-0 Game 2 loss to the Norse. … Simons and Katy Gannon (Roselle, Ill.) each had 11 hits in the Cardinals' eight games last week. Four of Simons' 11 hits were doubles. … Erin Stenseth (Eau Claire, Wis.) belted her first collegiate home run — a three-run, third-inning shots — in Game 2 vs. Augsburg last Saturday. … Stenseth enters today's DH at Hamline leading the team with a .373 batting average. Saturday's 5-2, Game 2 win over Saint Benedict snapped the Pipers' seven-game losing streak. … Hamline has been held to two runs or less in 11 of their 13 losses, and have been shut out five times. … Hamline belted a pair of home runs against the Blazers Saturday, with Erin Farley launching a solo shot — her team-leading third HR of the season — in the third inning of Game 1, while Ashley Anderberg delivered a two-run, seventh-inning HR in Game 2. … Jessalyn Weaver threw back-to-back complete games vs. the Blazers.
