The Cardinals erupted for 27 hits and 22 runs in cruising to a 10-3, 12-4 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference sweep at Concordia Saturday afternoon in Moorhead, Minn. Saint Benedict, meanwhile, has been off since Thursday, when the Blazers swept an MIAC doubleheader from Macalester, winning 8-1 and 6-5.

The Cardinals pulled one victory out of the jaws of defeat with a run in the bottom of the seventh inning to win the first game of their conference doubleheader against Saint Benedict, 3-2, but their bid for a second straight seventh-inning come-from-behind victory was gunned down at the plate, as Katy Gannon (Roselle, Ill.) was thrown out trying to score from third as CSB escpated with a 3-2 victory at SMU Field.

Katy Gannon (Roselle, Ill.) went 5-for-6 with a three-run home run, 4 RBIs and four runs scored in the Cardinals' sweep of Concordia on Saturday. … Angie Diercks (Red Wing, Minn.) was a perfect 4-for-4 vs. the Cobbers, while Kellie Simons (Richfield, Minn.), Paige Carter (Rosemount, Minn.), Hanna Schmitt (Rosemount, Minn.), Joanna Mangan (Chicago, Ill.) and Mallory Betzold (Farmington, Minn.) all had three hits in the conference sweep. … Two of Mangan's three hits came in the Cardinals' 11-run sixth inning in Game 2 vs. the Cobbers Saturday. … SMU's 11 sixth-inning runs were a season high. … Gannon's three-run, fifth-inning home run in the opener Saturday was her team-leading third of the season. … The Cardinals scored 17 of their 22 runs in two innings — six in the fifth in Game 1, and 11 in the sixth in Game 2. … In her last four games, Betzold has gone 10-for-23 (.565) with nine RBIs. … With her three hits against Concordia, Simons moved into the team lead with a .356 batting average.
