WINONA, Minn. — When it comes to post-season honors,
Kellie Simons (Richfield, Minn.) is now a perfect 2-for-2.
Just a day after earning her first-ever
First-Team All-Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference selection, Simons added all-region honors to her collegiate softball resume, as the Saint Mary's University junior was named to the NFCA/Louisville Slugger Third-Team All-Midwest Region, it was announced Wednesday.
And Simons had some post-season company, as freshman
Erin Stenseth (Eau Claire, Wis.) was also named to the NFCA Third Team.
Simons enjoyed a career year in 2010, hitting .353 with 47 hits in 133 at-bats. One of just three players to start all 40 games, Simons collected 14 extra-base hits — 10 doubles, two triples and two home runs — while driving in 21, compiling 67 total bases and posting a .504 slugging percentage.
Stenseth, meanwhile, finished her freshman season with a .350 batting average, with team-highs in at-bats (147), runs (29), hits (48) and doubles (12). The Cardinal leftfielder also launched her first two collegiate home runs, while driving in 18 runs and walking 10 times.
The Cardinal duo were two of 13 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference players named to one of the three NFCA/Louisville Slugger All-Region Teams.
Five MIAC student-athletes — including four from regular-season and conference-tournament champion St. Thomas — were named to the All-Region first team, while Gustavus' Lisa Klass was a second-team pick and seven others — including Simons and Stenseth — were named to the third team.
