WINONA, Minn. — All season,
Amy Sibik (Onalaska, Wis.) and
Amanda Rahman (Rochester, Minn.) have proven to be a lethal one-two punch for the Saint Mary's University women's soccer team.
And Sunday was no different, as the two accounted for all three SMU goals, as the Cardinals knocked out Central-Iowa 3-0 at Ochrymowycz Field.
“It was good to see us come out and play so well — especially after such a tough game (Saturday vs. Carleton),” said SMU coach Eric Zimmerman, whose squad evened its record at 4-4-0 with the win. “We got great effort from everyone today.”
Sibik got the Cardinals on the board in the game's 19th minute, netting her team-leading ninth goal of the season off an assist from
Caitlyn Cole (Larsen, Wis.).
Still clinging to that 1-0 advantage 13 minutes into the second half, Rahman took matters into her own hands, netting back-to-back goals three minutes apart to seal the victory.
After scoring just four goals in her first two seasons, Rahman has scored five this season — including the first two two-goal games of her career. Sibik, meanwhile, moved past Barb Bock into seventh place career points with her goal and assist Sunday.
“We needed a good bounce-back game like this,” said Zimmerman, whose team is back in action on Wednesday, hosting Simpson in a 4 p.m. nonconference contest. “We played very well (Saturday) and very well again today — hopefully we can keep that rolling.”
