LA CROSSE, Wis. — The Saint Mary's University women's golf team got off to a fast start at the Viterbo Invitational on Saturday, racing out to a 397 18-hole team total.

Unfortunately for the Cardinals, their finishing kick lacked a little punch, as SMU struggled to a 428 and settled for a seventh-place finish.

Gia Puch (Des Plaines, Ill.) recorded the season's best 18-hole score during Saturday's opening round, as the Cardinal junior posted an 86. Round 2, however, wasn't quite as memorable, as Puch shot a second-round 103 to finish at 189.

Jenna Mrozinski (North St. Paul, Minn.) posted back-to-back 104s, while Rachel Lamberty (Farmington, Minn.) added a 98-114—212 and Lauren Ulbrich (Rochester, Minn.) chipped in a 109-107—216 to round out the Cardinals' top four.

The Cardinals are back in action next weekend, traveling to Coon Rapids, Minn., to take part in the three-day Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships.
