WINONA, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University women's soccer team, coming off a season-opening 3-0 loss at UW-River Falls on Wednesday, plays host to Ripon at 4:30 p.m. Saturday in the Cardinals' home opener.

The Cardinals gave up a single goal in the first half and two more in the second, as UW-River Falls handed SMU a 3-0 nonconference setback in its season opener Wednesday in River Falls, Wis. Ripon, meanwhile, also failed to score a goal in its season opener, dropping a 5-0 decision to Edgewood in Madison, Wis.

Amy Sibik (Onalaska, Wis.) finished with a team-leading four shots in the Cardinals' loss to UW-River Falls on Wednesday. … Cassie Hulett (Milwaukee, Wis.) made her first collegiate start in goal vs. the Falcons. … Sibik scored a career-high 14 goals a year ago, giving her 34 goals for her collegiate career, moving her within three goals of Barb Bock for No. 6 all-time. … Sibik has recorded eight multiple-goal games in her career — including posting her first three-goal and four-goal games last season. … Caitlyn Cole (Larson, Wis.) boasted a team-best seven assists in 2009. … Six of Saint Mary's nine wins a year ago came on its home field, where the Cardinals play their next two games — today vs. Ripon and Sunday vs. Lakeland. … Wednesday's loss to UW-River Falls was just its second in their last eight nonconference games. SMU is now 34-4-1 in their last 39 games vs. non-MIAC foes and 34-7-2 in nonconference play since the start of the 2004 season.

The Red Hawks surrendered three first-half goals in their 5-0, season-opening loss to Edgewood Wednesday. … Ripon was held without a shot on goal vs. Edgewood, while GKs Elizabeth Wegner and Samantha Eubanks collected five and three saves, respectively. … Despite graduating just two players from last year's squad, the Red Hawks enter 2010 with 17 freshmen on their 27-player roster. … Rachel Martzahl is the Red Hawks' top offensive threat, having scored four goals a year ago. Martzahl enters her senior season with 23 career goals, which ranks sixth in school history. … Alice Fehland, a two-time All-Midwest Conference honorable-mention selection, has played in all 36 games since joining the team as a sophomore.
