WINONA, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University swimming and diving teams kick off the new year with their first home meet of the season Saturday, as SMU hosts Hamline and Augsburg in a double-double at the Jul Gernes Pool.

Last Meeting:
The Cardinals have already faced Hamline and Augsburg three times this season — at the Hamline Invitational on Nov. 6, at the Macalester Invitational on Nov. 20, and in a dual at Hamline on Dec. 3.

Saint Mary's Cardinals News and Notes:
The Cardinals have been off since dropping dual-meet decisions at Luther on Dec. 10. … Today's meet is the first of two straight home meets for the Cardinals, who host UW-River Falls on Dec. 29. … Mark Ross (Dubuque, Iowa) led the way for the Cardinal men against Luther on Dec. 10, placing first in the 500 freestyle (5:20.90), while also finishing second in the 200 IM, stopping the clock in 2:09.92. … Greg Mollner (St. Paul, Minn.) had an interesting double for the Cardinal men, placing second in both the one-meter diving (136.15) and the 100 butterfly (1:11.78). … Brandon Matis (Blaine Minn.) chipped in a third-place effort in the 100 freestyle, where he touched the wall in 54.37. … Nikki Farmer (Medford, Wis.), Liz Flynn (Mahtomedi, Minn.) and Anna Smaron (Maple Plain, Minn.) highlighted the Cardinal women's efforts vs. Luther with second-place performances. Farmer placed second in the 1,000 freestyle (12:15.08), with Flynn adding her second in the one-meter diving (211.55) and Smaron's coming in the 100 freestyle (1:02.13). … Smaron also recorded a third in the 100 breaststroke (1:17.05). … Lisa Lucas (Gunnison, Colo.) chipped in third-place times of 2:09.34 in the 200 freestyle and 5:54.19 in the 500 freestyle.
