WINONA, Minn. — Saint Mary's University women's soccer coach Neil Cassidy knew exactly what to expect from Carleton heading into Wednesday's Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game at Ochrymowycz Field.

After all, Cassidy spent the past five seasons as head coach Keren Gudeman's assistant.

Unfortunately for the Cardinals, Cassidy's insider information wasn't enough, as the Knights' goal late in the first half was enough to defeat the Cardinals 1-0.

“We played really well,” Cassidy said. “We've been consistent. The performance has been consistent on the way we want to try and play, which is really good to see.

“The results aren't there, but the performances are there.”

Carleton's Layne Teska scored the only goal of the game – her first of the season — off a feed from Karlie Haug — with 1:11 remaining in the first half.

Amanda Rahman (Rochester, Minn.) and Teri Valenzuela (Morton Grove, Ill.) led the charge offensively for the Cardinals with two shots apiece. Cardinal goalkeeper Miranda Halling (Rochester, Minn.) recorded three saves.

The Cardinals are back in action Saturday, as they host St. Catherine in a 1 p.m. MIAC matchup at Ochrymowycz Field.
