ROCHESTER, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University men's junior varsity hockey team scored the game's first five goals in cruising to a 5-2 win over the Rochester Ice Hawks Friday evening at the Rochester Rec Center.
Drew Wohlfiel opened the scoring for the Cardinals at 14:04 of the opening period, while
Evan Shockley and
Beau Braun added second-period tallies and Kytle Maas and NIck Gualano scored in the first four minutes of the third period to give SMU a commanding 5-0 lead.
The Ice Hawks would add to goals late in the third to spoil SMU goalie
Tim High's shutout bid. High finished with 29 saves in goal for the Cardinals.
SMU is back in action on Sunday, hosting Gustavus in 2 p.m. game at the SMU Ice Arena.
