BOTTINEAU, N.D. — Kyle Maas and Sam Wilczyk each scored two goals, as the Saint Mary's University men's JV hockey team cruised to an 8-1 victory over MSU-Bottineau Saturday evening.

Nick Gualano got the Cardinals on the board with the game's only goal in the first period, before SMU erupted for three second-period goals — two by Maas and the other by Mike Anderson — to take a 4-0 advantage into the final period.

Over those final 20 minutes, Wilczyk scored twice, with Jimmy Stewart and Jorday Myers also finding the back of the net. Sealy Wallend foiled SMU goalie Tim High's shutout bid, scoring Bottineau's lone goal with 2:01 remaining in regulation.

High finished with 23 saves for the Cardinals, who won their second straight.

SMU and MSU-Bottineau square off again on Sunday in the second game of their two-game series.
