BOTTINEAU, N.D. — The Saint Mary's University men's JV hockey team got goals from Kyle Maas and Peter Roning in the third period to rally the Cardinals to a 3-2 victory Sunday and a sweep of MSU-Bottineau.

Trailing 2-0 midway through the second period, Ronning netted the first of his two goals to pulling the Cardinals within one — and set up their third-period heroics.

The Cardinals peppered MSU-Bottineau goalie Troy Chandler with 60 shots — including 26 in the first period. SMU goalie Allen Mekash, meanwhile, stopped 38 of the 40 shots he faced in notching the.

SMU, which improves to a 6-3 with the victory, is now off until Jan. 28, when the Cardinals travel to St. Cloud, Minn., for a 2 p.m. game against Saint John's.
