Dan Billiar (Mankato, Minn.) scored three goals — giving him five in the two-game series — as the freshman led the Saint Mary's University junior varsity men's hockey team to a 7-2 victory over Minnesota State Mankato Club Sunday at the SMU Ice Arena.
The Cardinals got goals from three different players in jumping out to a 3-1 first-period lead, then added three more goals in the second period — including back-to-back tallies by Billiar 12 seconds apart — to take a commanding 6-2 advantgage into the game's final period.
Sean Muller (Boerne, Texas) finished wiht 33 saves for the Cardinals, while Minnesota State goalie Ben Walsh faced 55 SMU shots, stopping 48.
The Cardinals close out their season next weekend, traveling to Saint John's for games Saturday (5 p.m.) and Sunday (noon).
