WINONA, Minn. — Twenty Saint Mary's University fall student-athletes earned Academic All-Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference recognition, it was announced Tuesday.

The MIAC recognized 304 student-athletes who represented the conference's thirteen institutions. The total is just one shy of tying the MIAC's fall record, which was 305 honorees in 2009.

Student-athletes must be a sophomore, junior, or senior with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale to qualify for MIAC Academic All-Conference recognition. Athletically, student-athletes in football, soccer, and volleyball must compete in 50% of their team's varsity regular season contests. Golfers must be a member of their competing team at the conference championship and cross country runners must finish in the top 50 at the conference championship or be in the top seven of their team at the MIAC Championships.

The volleyball and women's cross country teams led the way for Saint Mary's, each landing five athletes on the Academic All-MIAC Team.

Sara Harstad (Chatfield, Minn.), Amy Kujak (River Falls, Wis.), Erika Hurley (Chatfield, Minn.) Lindsey Legatt (Sartell, Min.) and Cathy Rennie (Pine Island, Minn.) represented the SMU volleyball team, while Regina Quandt (Minneapolis, Minn.), Mackenzie Ferguson (Arcadia, Wis.), Brittany Kuehn (Sauk Rapids, Minn.), Joanna Pace (Minoqua, Wis.) and Elizabeth Scott (Rochester, Minn.) were selected from the women's cross country team.

Other SMU academic all-conference performers include David Feather (Milwaukee, Wis.), Peter Borash (Bowlus, Minn.), Jake Traxler (LeCenter, Minn.) and Robby McGuire from the men's cross country team, Cassie Hulett (Milwaukee, Wis.), Amanda Rahman (Rochester, Minn.), Kelsey Schneider (Portland, Ore.) and Amy Sibik (Onalaska, Wis.) from the women's soccer team, and Gia Puch (Des Plaines, Ill.) and Lauren Ulbrich (Rochester, Minn.) from the women's golf team.
