SMU finishes its spring trip with a 7-3 record at the Tucson Invitational Games.
“We didn't have a great day and should've been able to put them away sooner,” SMU Coach
Jen Miller said. “But we were happy to leave with another win.”
Mallory Betzold (Farmington, Minn.) paced the Cardinals with a 3-for-3 performance at the plate. Teammates
Erin Stenseth (Eau Claire, Wis.) and
Paige Carter (Rosemount, Minn.) added doubles, while
Kellie Simons (Richfield, Minn.) and Jo Mangan (Chicago, Ill.) had singles.
Betzold was the winning pitcher. She threw four innings, gave up seven hits and struck out two.
Kayla Peterson (Lewiston, Minn.) came on in relief and pitched three innings. She allowed two hits, fanned two and walked one.
“We are pleased with how well we played on this trip,” Miller said. “We beat some quality teams and got some great experience. Now we need to focus on getting ready for our conference games.”
