MIAC Players of the Week for March 28
WINONA, Minn. —
Paige Carter (Rosemount, Minn.) has gotten her sophomore season off to a roaring start in helping the Saint Mary's University fastpitch softball team to a 7-3 overall record following their week-long trip to Tucson, Ariz.
And Carter's early season performance hasn't gone unnoticed, either, as the Cardinal outfielder was named Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week, it was announced Monday.
In the Cardinals' 10 games at the Tucson Invitational, Carter amassed jaw-dropping numbers, including a .375 batting average, seven runs scored, 12 hits — including seven for extra-bases — 17 RBIs, 25 total bases, a .781 slugging percentage and a .444 on-base percentage.
Among her seven extra-base hits were four doubles and three home runs — including a pair of grand slams against the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford on March 7 and March 10. Carter collected at least one hit in eight of the team's 10 spring-trip games. She had two or more hits three times and drove in two or more runs on four separate occasions.
Carter and the Cardinals kick off their MIAC season on Wednesday, hosting St. Thomas in a 4 p.m. doubleheader at the SMU Field.
