ST. PAUL, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University track and field teams got their indoor season off to a roaring start at the St. Thomas Showcase Friday evening.
Kassondra Burtis (Fairmont, Minn.) led the way for the SMU women, uncorking a throw of 14.38 meters to place sixth, while Jake Traxler's (Le Center, Minn.) fourth-place effort in the 3000 (9:04.73) led the way for the Cardinal men in the non-team scored event.
Along with Traxler's effort, the SMU men also got a fifth-place showing from Colin Sheehan (Austin, Minn.) in the 800 (2:07.71), while Gus Wiggert (La Crosse, Wis.) was sixth in the shot put (12.69 meters), Aaron Haley (Plainview, Minn.) was seventh in the 3000 (9:20.73) and Tyler Kircher (Cashton, Wis.) was eighth in the weight throw (12.63 meters).
On the women's side,
Regina Quandt (Minneapolis, Minn.) chipped in a seventh-place performance in the 600 (1:47.31), while
Becca Iten (Fridley, Minn.) was ninth in the pole vault (2.74 meters).
Beth Scott (Rochester, Minn.) and
Kim Puk (Naperville, Ill.) each recorded 10th-place efforts in the mile (5:59.28) and 400 (1:09.36), respectively, with
Katie Stolz (Forest Lake, Minn. / 3000, 11:46.31) and
Coco Booker (St. Paul, Minn. / shot put, 10.52 meters) adding 11th-place outings.
The Cardinals are back in action next Saturday, traveling to Menomonie, Wis., to take part in the UW-Stout Warren Bowlus Invitational
