OSHKOSH, Wis. — The Saint Mary's University men's tennis team closed out a perfect 2-0 weekend Saturday afternoon — and the Cardinals made it look easy.
SMU, coming off a hard-fought 7-2 win over Concordia (Wis.) on Friday, cruised to a 9-0 nonconference victory over Ripon Saturday.
SMU dropped just 15 games in sweeping all six singles matches in straight sets against the Red Hawks, as
Michael Lunka (Eagan, Minn.),
Bobby Steingraeber (La Crosse, Wis.),
Sam Puff (Eden Prairie, Minn.),
Andrew Rangitsch (Oakdale, Minn.),
Gavin Smith (White Bear Lake, Minn.) and Nick Kassel (Minneapolis, Minn.) all cruised to victories.
The Cardinals were just as dominant in doubles play, as Lunka-Steingraeber won 8-3 at No. 1, Puff-Rangitsch were 8-4 winners at No. 2 and Smith-
Justin Loeffler (Winona, Minn.) rolled to an 8-2 win at No. 3.
The Cardinals improve to 5-2 overall and are back in action on March 5, when they kick off their spring trip in Orlando, Fla., with matches against Marywood University and King's College.
