DUBUQUE, Iowa — After failing to find the back of the net in their season-opening 3-0 loss to Edgewood Friday evening, the Saint Mary's University women's soccer team netted its first goal of the season on a second-half tally by Katie Holmes (Edina, Minn.)  Sunday afternoon against Loras.

That, however, would be the extend of the Cardinals' offensive output, as Loras scored the game's first two goals and never looked back in handing SMU a 3-1 nonconference setback at the Rock Bowl.

Taryn Peterson got Loras on the board in the game's 29th minute and Katie Truesdale pushed that lead to 2-0 10 minutes later.

Holmes cut the deficit to 2-1 with her first of the season 14 minutes into the second half, but the Duhawks' Hillary Wilson pushed Loras' lead back to two goals with her first of the year in the game's 75th minute.

Miranda Halling (Rochester, Minn.) stopped a season-high five shots in goal for the Cardinals, while Loras' Mary Katie Halm and Hannah Wilson shared the goalkeeping duties, with Halm stopping SMU's lone shot in the first half, while Wilson failed to record a save over the game's second 45 minutes.

SMU (0-2 overall) returns to action on Friday, hosting the University of Dubuque in a 4:30 p.m. game at Ochrymowycz Field.
