EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — The Saint Mary's University men's and women's cross country teams hit the road on Friday, traveling to UW-Eau Claire to take part in the Blugold Invitational.

The Cardinals' Last Action:
Fueled by Aaron Haley's (Plainview, Minn.) first-place effort, the Cardinal men earned a third-place team finish at last Friday's SMU No-Limit INvitational, totaling 84 points. Allie Thiel (Burr Ridge, Ill.) led the way for the SMU women, posting a fifth-place showing of 25:10 across the 6K course to help the Cardinals to a fourth-place team showing.

The Cardinals at the Blugold Invitational — Their Last Appearance:
October 2, 2009: Mother Nature did her best to make life miserable for SMU with rain and frigid temperatures.  Fortunately for SMU coach Ward Berndt, Mother Nature's best wasn't good enough to faze the Cardinal runners, as both teams placed 13th in the 19-team fields.

The Cardinals are off until Oct. 19, when they travel to West Salem, Wis., to take part in the UW-La Crosse Jim Drews/Tori Neubauer Invitationals.

Aaron Haley (Plainview, Minn.) defended his SMU No-Limit Invitational individual title last Friday, as the Cardinal junior won the event with an eight-kilometer time of 27:18. … Haley's winning time was 13 seconds faster than runner-up Cody Artymiuk of UW-Eau Claire. … Haley — who set the school's 8K record with a time of 26:00 at the Jim Drews Invitational last season, while narrowly missing rewriting the record books again at the MIAC Championships, when he clocked a time of 26:03 to finish 13th overall and earn First-Team All-MIAC honors — has now led the team in each of the two events he has competed in. … Along with Haley's second straight individual title at last Friday's SMU No-Limit Invitational, the Cardinal men also got a 16th-place effort by Jase Pater (Adrian, Minn.), who stopped the clock in 28:59). … John Soucheray (Woodbury, Minn. / 29:50), Gabe Thiel (Berlin, Wis. / 29:57) and Jovan Newsum (Glendale Heights, Ill. / 30:21) rounded out the Cardinals' top five last Friday. … Allie Thiel (Burr Ridge, Ill.) led the way for the SMU women at the SMU No-Limit Invite, posting a fifth-place showing of 25:10 across the 6K course. … Chelsea Tremblay (Hayward, Wis.) was the second Cardinal across the finish line, posting a time of 25:34), with Bridget Hayes (Chicago, Ill. / 26:07), Amy Spitzmueller (New Brighton, Minn. / 26:26) and Josie Moreno (Cicero, Ill. / 26:27) rounding out SMU's top five.
