ROCHESTER, Minn. — Talk about perfect timing.

Hailey Ohl (Rosemount, Minn.) could not have picked a better time to hit her first collegiate home run, as the Cardinal senior belted a two-run, walk-off home run in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift the Saint Mary's University fastpitch softball team to a 7-5 victory in the opening game of their Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader against Saint Benedict in the Rochester Dome.

And the Cardinals' high-powered offense — again led by Ohl and fellow senior Anna Ramboldt (Goodhue, Minn.) — remained in high gear in the nightcap, as SMU erupted for 11 runs in completing the sweep with an 11-4 victory.

The Cardinals put on a power-hitting display in the opener, with Ohl's extra-inning heroics the icing on the cake. SMU belted four home runs in Game 1 — including two from Alex Raske (Chicago, Ill.) and the other another collegiate first by Ramboldt (Goodhue, Minn.).

SMU jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second as Raske and Ramboldt delivered back-to-back home runs to lead off the inning. The Cardinals would pad that lead to 5-0 on Raske's second solo home run in as many at-bats in the third, and a two-run double by Ramboldt in the fifth — only to have CSB answer with four runs in the sixth and another in the seventh to send the game into extra innings.

And set up probably the most memorable swing in Ohl's four-year collegiate career.

As much fun as she had rounding the bases in Game 1, Ohl decided an instant replay was in order, as the Cardinal senior belted home run No. 2 of her collegiate careers in the second game.

After falling behind 4-0 in the first inning, SMU rattled off 11 unanswered runs — tying the game at 4-4 with four unearned runs in the third, before Ohl delivered a three-run home run in the fifth and Ramboldt laced a two-run shot in the sixth.

Ramboldt fueled SMU's nine-hit Game 1 attack, going 3-for-4 with three RBIs, while Raske was 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs and three runs scored. Paige Carter (Rosemount, Minn.) went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored as SMU banged out 15 hits in Game 2. Ramboldt, Ohl, Raske, Mel Hamilton (Homewood, Ill.), Julie Bartosz (Mokena, Ill.) and Mariah Harper (Schaumburg, Ill.) all chipped in two hits in the second game.

Carter picked up the pitching wins in relief of Kayla Peterson (Lewiston, Minn.) in both games. The senior allowed just one unearned runs on three hits in 2.2 innings of work in the opener, while holding CSB scoreless on four hits in 3.1 innings in Game 2.

The Cardinals (6-2 MIAC, 13-6 overall) are back in action on Tuesday, when SMU heads to Northfield, Minn., for a 3:30 p.m. MIAC doubleheader against St. Olaf.
