LAKE CITY, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University women's golf team kicks off its 2013 season Friday, squaring off against Macalester in a dual match at The Jewel GC.

SMU vs. Macalester — A Year Ago:
Aug. 31, 2012: SMU got a 96 from Jenna Mrozinski (North St. Paul, Minn.), but did not have the firepower to keep up with Macalester in the team's season-opening dual. Macalester got a pair of rounds in the 80s — including a medalist round of 86 from Grace Caird — as the Scots beat the Cardinals 364-416 at Mississippi National Golf Links.

The Cardinals are back on the course next Thursday, squaring off against Bethany Lutheran in a dual match at Cedar Valley Golf Course in Winona, Minn. … Macalester is right back in action on Saturday-Sunday, taking part in the UW-Eau Claire Georgianni Memorial Invitational in Eau Claire, Wis.

Jenna Mrozinski — the lone senior on the team a year ago — closed out the season with a team-best 92.2 scoring average. … Mrozinski closed out her collegiate career firing a team-leading 94-92-89—275 at the MIAC. … Mrozinski's final-round 89 was her best round of the season. … Mrozinski finished with the team's five lowest rounds of the season. … Haley Jung (Monticello, Minn.), Kendra Palkowski (Arcadia, Wis.) and Jennie Marx (Hector, Minn.) also posted collegiate-best scores at the MIAC. Jung carded a career-best 92 during the second round of the MIAC, while Marx — who had not broken 100 in her first six collegiate rounds — shot 97-99-98—294 at the season-ending conference championships, and  Palkowski tallied a final-round 92. … The Cardinal women recorded their top two team scores at the MIAC, shooting a season-best 375 in the final round, while adding a 379 in the second round.
