PLATTEVILLE, Wis. — For 45 minutes, the Saint Mary's University women's soccer team held high-scoring UW-Platteville off the scoreboard.

The Pioneers, however, just needed those first 45 minutes to get warmed up.

UW-Platteville — coming off a season-opening 3-0 win over Grinnell on Friday — erupted for four second-half goals in handing the Cardinals a 4-0 nonconference setback in SMU's season-opener Saturday.

Miranda Halling (Rochester, Minn.) did her part to keep the Pioneers at bay, stopping all five shots she faced in the opening half.

The Pioneers finally solved the Cardinals' junior goalkeeper six minutes into the second half, as Julie Divita rifled a shot past Halling to give UW-Platteville a 1-0 advantage.

Less than two minutes later, the Pioneers' lead improved to 2-0, as Corey Daehling netted her first of the season. Yamilex Jaramillo and Ashley Chernich would also tally their first goals of the season in the second have to account for UW-P's other two second-half tallies.

Halling, making her 19th straight start, finished with 10 saves, while a pair of UW-Platteville goalkeepers combined to keep the Cardinals off the scoreboard.

SMU (0-1 overall) is right back in action on Sunday, traveling to Dubuque, Iowa, for a 2 p.m. nonconference game against the University of Dubuque.
