SAUK CENTER, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University men's golf team hits the road this weekend, taking part in the 36-hole Saint John's Invitational. Saturday's first round will be held at the Greystone GC in Sauk Center, Minn., with Sunday's final round at the Blackberry Ridge GC in Sartell, Minn.

The Cardinals' Last Action:
After opening the two-day Augsburg Invitational with a 331 total, the Cardinals whittled five strokes off that first-round score when they toured Majestic Oaks Golf Course for the second round. Unfortunately for the Cardinals, that five-shot improvement wasn't enough to lift them up the leaderboard, as SMU settled for a 13th-place finish in the 36-hole event in Ham Lake, Minn.

SMU at Saint John's Invitational — A Year Ago:
September 15-16, 2012: Blake Westerberg (Red Wing, Minn.) got off to a slow start in his opening 18 holes at the Saint John's Invitational, shooting a front-nine 44, before rebounding with a three-over-par 39 on the back nine. After another slow start — this time a six-over 42 — Westerberg carded his best collegiate nine-hole score, touring the back nine at Blackberry Ridge Golf Course in three-under 33 en route to a second-day 75. Fueled by Westerberg's 83-75—158, the Cardinals shaved 10 strokes off their Day 1 score, shooting a 336 to finish 20th overall.

The Cardinals return to action on Sept. 22, when they travel to Willinger's Golf Course in Northfield, Minn., for a dual against Carleton.

Tim Wolford (Maple Grove, Minn.) carded the Cardinals' low round of the season at the SMU Open on Sept. 5, carding a three-over-par 75 at Cedar Valley GC to finish second individually. … Blake Westerberg (Red Wing, Minn.) put together back-to-back rounds of 77 to place 15th at the Augsburg Invitational last weekend. … Westerberg has not shot above 80 all season, posting two rounds of 79 and two rounds of 77 for a team-leading 78.0 stroke average. … Wolford is second on the team in scoring average at 78.5, after recording rounds of 79, 75, 78 and 82. … Connor Brandt (Woodbury, Minn.) carded a collegiate-best 77 during the Cardinals' season-opening dual against Macalester on Aug. 30. … SMU has now posted nine rounds in the 70s through the first three weeks of the season. … The Cardinals fired a season-low 319 at the SMU Open on Sept. 5 — it was the lowest team score since carding a 316 at the Wartburg Spring Invitational in April, 2010.
