WINONA, Minn. — After a shaky start to the season last Friday in a dual against Macalester, the Saint Mary's University women's golf team showed some of its true potential Thursday afternoon in their dual against Bethany Lutheran.
SMU's season best, however, wasn't quite enough, as the Vikings — fueled by Chelsea Green's medalist round of 84 — edged the Cardinals 397-408 at Cedar Valley Golf Course.
"We played much better today than we did (against Macalester)," said SMU coach Ryan Egan. "We've still got a lot of work to do, but I thought we played much closer to our potential — which is a good sign."
Kelsey Stenzel (Wabasha, Minn.) led the way for the Cardinals, shooting a 95 to place second overall, while
Madison Gately (Glenview, Ill.) added a 98,
Kortney Wobbe (Wabasha, Minn.) tallied a 99 and
Brittany Stenzel (Wabasha, Minn.) finished with a 116.
The Cardinals are right back in action this weekend, taking part in the Wartburg Invitational Saturday and Sunday at Centennial Oaks Golf Course in Waverly, Iowa.
