WAVERLY, Iowa — Kelsey Stengel (Wabasha, Minn.) led the way for the Saint Mary's University women's golf team at the Wartburg Invitational Saturday evening, firing a 98 to pace the Cardinals to a 403 total and a 16th-place showing after the opening day of the two-day tournament at Centennial Oaks Golf Course.

Along with Stenzel's 98, Madison Gately (Glenview, Ill.) chipped in a 99, while Jennie Marx (Austin, Minn.) and Kortney Wobbe (Wabasha, Minn.) tallied 103s and Brittany Stenzel added a 118.

St. Thomas leads the 36-hole tournament with an opening-round 322, giving the Tommies a one-stroke lead over UW-Stout and Wartburg, while Carleton and Gra View are tied for fourth, three, shots back at 325.

UW-Eau Claire's Kate Engler share the first-round lead, with each shooting tow-over-par 74s, followed by Grace Gilmore (Carleton) College) with a 76, and Marian Chesley (UW-Stout), Erin Dingmann (St. Thomas) and Nicole McDonald (Grand View) 77s.

The Cardinals close out the two-day, 36-hole Wartburg Invitational on Sunday at Centennial Oaks Golf Course.
