Wobbe, Stenzel lead way for SMU at Wartburg

WAVERLY, Iowa — If Saturday was good, Sunday was better for the Saint Mary's University women's golf team.

The Cardinals, who shot an opening-round 403 Saturday during the two-day Wartburg Invitational, cut 11 shots off that total in Sunday's final round to finish with a 795 total and a 15th-place team showing.

Kortney Wobbe (Wabasha, Minn.) followed up a first-round 103 with a collegiate-best 91 on Sunday, while Kelsey Stenzel (Wabasha, Minn.) also enjoyed a stellar second round, turning in a career-low 96 — two strokes better than her opening-round 98 — to equal Wobbe's team-best 194 total

Jennie Marx (Austin, Minn. / 103-100—203), Madison Gately ( / 99-105—204) and Brittany Stenzel (Wabasha, Minn. / 118-108—226) rounded out the Cardinals' lineup.

St. Thomas won the event with a two-day, 634 total, four shots better than runner-up Grand View. Host Wartburg was third (639), while UW-Stout (649) and Carleton (657) rounded out the top five.

Grand View's Kenzie Rottainghaus took home medalist honors, firing a three-over-par 36-hole total of 147 (74-73), one shot better than UW-Eau Claire's Kate Engler, who carded back-to-back 74s for a 148 total. Nicole McDonald of Grand View was third (77-76—153) was third, followed by St. Thomas' Erin Dingmann (77-77—154) and Doyle O'Brien (80-74—154).

The Cardinals return to action next weekend, taking part in the 36-hole Viterbo Invitational at the La Crosse Country Club in La Crosse, Wis.
