WINONA, Minn. —
Emily Loof (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and
Emma Schaefer (Falcon Heights, Minn.) proved to be a rather potent 1-2 offensive punch for the Saint Mary's University of Minnesota women's soccer team this season.
It was a lethal combination that did not go unnoticed around the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference—and Thursday, the Cardinal duo were rewarded for their efforts, being named honorable-mention All-MIAC.
Loof took the conference by storm in her first year in a Cardinal uniform, closing out the season with a team-leading 12 goals—including three game-winners. Loof, who recorded four multiple-goal games, also led the team with 26 points—the most by a Saint Mary's player since Amy Sibik finished with 29 points (12 goals, 5 assists) during the 2010 season.
Schaefer, meanwhile, finished second to Loof in both goals (6) and points (15)—both career highs.
Loof and Schaefer combined to score 18 of the team's 28 goals this season, while also each notching their first collegiate three-goal games. Loof recorded her hat trick against Bethany Lutheran on Sept. 23, while Schaefer found the back of the net three times against UW-Superior on Sept. 6. The three-goal efforts were the most in a game since Sibik netted four goals against Ripon on Sept. 4, 2010. They also marked the first time Saint Mary's had two games in which an individual scored three or more goals since Sibik scored four goals against UW-Superior and three goals against Simpson during the 2009 season.
Augsburg senior Olivia Muyres was named the MIAC's Player of the Year, while Mike Navarre, who guided the Auggies to the conference's regular-season and playoff titles, was named MIAC Coach of the Year.
As part of the conference-wide sportsmanship initiative, the MIAC also announced the eighth annual All-MIAC Sportsmanship team for women's soccer, which included Saint Mary's
Miranda Halling (Rochester, Minn.).
