Kaitlin Kling (LeRoy, Minn.) set the standard last weekend during the second round of the Wartburg Invitational, carding the Saint Mary's University of Minnesota women's golf team's low round of the season with a second-day 88.
Saturday afternoon,
Madison Gately (Glenview, Ill.) equaled her freshman counterpart's effort, notching a career-best 88 of her own in leading the Cardinals to a 15
th-place finish during the opening round of the Division III Classic at The Jewel.
St. Thomas leads the 36-hole tournament, carding a 311 team score, two shots better than Carleton and seven shots up on third-place Saint Benedict. UW-Eau Claire (321) and St. Catherine (322) round out the top five.
Along with Gately's 88, the Cardinals—sitting in 15
th place heading into Sunday's final round—got a 97 from Kkling, a 97 from
Kelsey Stenzel (Wabasha, Minn.), a 100 from
Haley Jung (Monticello, Minn.) and a 128 from
Kortney Wobbe (Wabasha, Minn.).
Individually, Grace Gilmore tallied a three-over-par 75 to take a two shot lead over St. Thomas' Sophie Tuttle and Emily Thul heading into Sunday's final 18 holes at The Jewel.
