WAVERLY, Iowa — The Saint Mary's University of Minnesota women's golf team was not happy with the way they performed during the opening round of the Wartburg Invitational Saturday.
So the Cardinals went out and did something about it in Sunday's final round of the 36-hole tournament.
Kaitlin Kling (LeRoy, Minn.) carded a career-low round of 88 and
Madison Gately (Glenview, Ill.) added her best round as a Cardinal with a 90, as the Cardinals shaved 22 strokes off their opening-round score, shooting a 364 to place 16th.
Carleton captured the team title with a 604 total, 11 shots better than St. Thomas, with UW-Stout (620), Wartburg (627) and UW-Eau Claire (637) rounding out the top five.
St. Thomas' Erin Dingmann earned medalist honors, carding a two-over-par 146 (72-74) and edging Carleton's Geraldine Tellbuscher by two shots.
Kling finished with a 182 total (94-88), while Gately was three shots back at 185 (95-90).
Jennie Marx (Austin, Minn.) added a 93 to her opening-round 95 for a 188 total, while
Haley Jung (Monticello, Minn. / 102-93—195) and Paula Vila (Weslaco, Texas / 103-108—211) rounded out the Cardinals' lineup.
Saint Mary's is back in action next weekend, traveling to The Jewel in Lake City, Minn., to take part in the D3 Classic, hosted by Carleton.
