ST. PAUL, Minn. — It was another busy day in the pool for the Saint Mary's University of Minnesota swimming and diving teams Saturday afternoon.
Grace VanBeest (Flossmoor, Ill.) and
Reese Galewski (Winona, Minn.) teamed up for four top 10 finishes in leading the Cardinal women to a sixth place finish at the Macalester Roger Ahlman Invitational, while Joe Tonda (St. Paul, Minn.) and Lukas Rukavina (Winona, Minn.) guided the Saint Mary's men to fifth with four top-10 efforts.
VanBeest led the charge for the Saint Mary's women, clocking a time of 2:38.55 to finish sixth in the 200 breaststroke, while also chipping in an 11th in the 400 IM with a time of 5:29.34.
Galewski, meanwhile, chipped in a pair of seventh-place efforts in the 100 butterfly (1:05.99) and 100 backstroke (1:08.96), and added a 10th in the 200 backstroke, touching the wall in 2:25.10.
Ailie Davidson (Duluth, Minn.) led the Cardinal divers, placing 11th in the 3-meter (157.25) and 13th in the 1-meter (143.10), with
Kierra Walske (Rochester, Minn.) finishing 14th in the 1-meter (142.55).
Rukavina raced to the men's top finish, placing sixth in the 100 butterfly with a time of 57.50. The Cardinal freshman also added a seventh in the 100 freestyle (50.65), while Tonda added an eighth in the 200 IM (2:13.22) and a 10th in the 100 breaststroke (1:06.55).
The Cardinals are back on the road on Saturday, traveling to St. Peter, Minn., to compete in the Gustavus Grace Gobrish Invitational.
