Saint Mary's GameDay Preview MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. —
Grace VanBeest (Flossmoor, Ill.) had so much fun breaking school records on Friday, the Saint Mary's University of Minnesota junior decided an encore performance was necessary on Saturday.
VanBeest—who broke her own school record in the 100 breaststroke twice, and was part of the school record-setting 200 medley relay during the second day of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships Friday—notched school record No. 4 in the prelims of Saturday's 200 breaststroke.
Scratch that.
VanBeest didn't just break the school's 200 breaststroke record—she shattered it, touching the wall in 2:26.35, more than six seconds faster than her previous school mark, set at last year's conference championships.
The record-setting effort put VanBeest into Saturday evening's finals seeded third—and the junior clocked a time of 2:26.88 to finish fourth, missing all-conference honors by one place finish.
Fueled by VanBeest's efforts, the Cardinal women finished 10
th in the team standings, while the Saint Mary's men took eighth.
Reese Galewski (Winona, Minn.) earned her second consolation final appearance with a time of 2:23.12 in the 200 butterfly. And Galewski was just getting warmed up, breaking the Cardinals' 16-year-old school record with a time 2:21.09 to place 13
th.
Ailie Davidson (Rochester, Minn.) earned her way into the one-meter diving finals, where she finished eighth with a score of 317.20. Fellow divers

Christina Weldai (London, England) and
Sarah Fanning (Sparta, Wis.) added times of 59.13 and 1:03.08, respectively, in the 100 freestyle, and
Caroline Hoffman (Chicago, Ill.) chipped in a time of 2:58.51 in the 200 breaststroke.
Lucas Gerads (St. Cloud, Minn.) led the way for the Cardinal men, narrowly missing reaching the consolation finals in the 200 butterfly, finishing 17
th with a time of 2:09.20—more than nine seconds faster than his collegiate best. While Joe Tonda (St. Paul, Minn.) posted an 18
th-place effort in the 200 backstroke with a season-best time of 2:03.72.
Brian Mockler (Dubuque, Iowa) touched the wall in 2:27.00 in the 200 breaststroke, while P.J.
