WAVERLY, Iowa — After finishing with the team's second-best score in each of the Saint Mary's University of Minnesota women's golf team's first three rounds this spring,
Madison Gately had had enough.
It was time to be No. 1.
Gately carded the Cardinals' best round of the spring season, carding a 84 in helping the Cardinals' place eighth at the 36-hole Wartburg Spring Invitational Sunday.
Kaitlin Kling, who had led the team in scoring in both rounds of last weekend's Augsburg Invitational, as well as the opening round of the Wartburg Invite, closed out with a team-best 36-hole total of 173, adding a second-round 87 to her opening-day 86.
Gately shot a 95 during Saturday's opening round to finish with a 179 total, while
Tiarra Thompson (110-100—210) and
Michaela Heuckendorf (112-103—215) rounded out the Cardinals' top four.
Host Wartburg won the tournament with a 632 total, seven shots in front of St. Thomas, with Carleton, Central (Iowa), and UW-Eau Claire rounding out the top five. Wartburg's Brooke Klostermann captures medalist honors, finishing with a 148 two-day total (72-76).
The Cardinals close out the spring portion of their schedule next weekend, heading to Deer Run Golf Course in Victoria, Minn., to take part in the Bethel Royal Match.
