BECKER, Minn. — Monday's final round of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Golf Championships proved to be a storybook ending for Saint Mary's University of Minnesota's
Michaela Heuckendorf (Plymouth, Minn.).
Playing in the final round of the final conference championships of her collegiate career, Heuckendorf saved her best for last, shooting a final-round 83 — six shots better than her previous career-low round, and 24 shots lower than her second-round MIAC score of 107.
Following Heuckendorf's lead, the other three Cardinals competing in Monday's final round also posted their best scores of the tournament, as Saint Mary's shot a third-round 373 to finish 11
th in the team standings.
Jessica Massimo (Kenosha, Wis.) delivered a third-round 91 to finish as the low Cardinal finisher at 288 (97-100-91), two shots in front of Heuckendorf (110-107-83—300).
Dani Stevens (Delano, Minn.) finished with a 99 on Monday for a 304 54-hole total (99-106-99) and
Annika Blesener (North St. Paul, Minn.) rounded out the lineup with a final-round 100 and a 306 total (105-101-100).
Carleton ran away with the conference team title, shooting rounds of 303-299-3-2—904 for a 66-shot win over runner-up Saint Benedict. Gustavus finished third (331-323-317—971), with St. Catherine (328-328-329—985) and St. Olaf (342-333-329—1004) rounding out the top five.
Carleton swept the top five spots in the individual competition, with /Ziyi Wang claiming medalist honors with a 221 (73-74-74), two shots in front of Alyssa Akiyama (75-73-75). Abby Euyang finished third (79-75-77—231), followed by Ayumi Sakamoto (79-77-76—232) and Alexis Chan (76-79-80—235).
