NORTHFIELD, Minn. —
Anna Marinc (Carol Stream, Ill.) made her first career Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships one to remember Saturday afternoon.
Marinc toured the six-kilometer course in a career-best six-kilometer time of 25:02, as the Cardinal freshman led Saint Mary's to a 11
th-place finish in the team standings.
The Cardinal men, meanwhile, were led by a familiar face — sophomore Isaiah Olsem (Fulda, Minn.), who was the team's top finisher for the fourth straight meet, covering the eight-kilometer course in 27:48 to lead Saint Mary's to a 10
th-place showing in the team-standings.
Danielle Franke (Mounds View, Minn.) right on Marinc's heels, adding a time of 25:24, while
Erika Thiel (Burr Ridge, Ill.) was the third Cardinal across the line, stopping the clock in 26:51.
Emily Ortiz (Albert Lea, Minn.) added a time of 27:11, followed by
Emma Ririe (Darien, Ill. / 27:38),
Tabby Fabin (Elk Grove, Ill. / 28:01),
Molly Sweet (Prescott, Wis. / 28:06),
Julia VanWatermeulen (Ellsworth, Wis. / 28:13), Maddy Bollig (St. Croix Falls, Wis. / 30:15), and
Rachel Simon (Foley, Minn. / 31:23).
Jordan Malikowski (Royalton, Minn.) was the second Cardinal across the finish line, posting a time of 28:05, followed by Tanner Moris (Crandon, Wis. / 28:19), Jonathon Meaden (Rosemount, Minn. / 29:08), Ben Borash (Bowlus, Minn. / 30:25), Tyler Northey (Esko, Minn. / 30:52), and Marlon Barrett-Dwyer (Chicago, Ill. / 34:20).
Carleton captured the women's team title, posting four runners in the top 12 en route to its second straight MIAC crown. St. Thomas and St. Olaf finished second and third, respectively, followed by Saint Benedict, Hamline, Gustavus, Macalester, Bethel, Concordia, St. Catherine and Saint Mary's.
The Knights also brought home their second straight men's conference crown — sweeping the top three individual places — to outdistance runner-up St. Olaf. St. Thomas place third, followed by Bethel, Saint John's, Gustavus, Concordia, Macalester, Hamline, Saint Mary's and Augsburg.
Saint Benedict's Morgan Pierce earned individual honors, crossing the finish line in 22:30.0 to become the first Bennie since Leah Wurm in 2004 to claim the individual MIAC crown. Emma Greenlee and Amanda Mosborg of Carleton placed second and third, respectively — clocking times of 22:40 and 22:42 — with Lisa Fisher of St. Olaf (22:49), and Hamline's Madeline Dopp (22:49) rounding out the top five.
On the men's side,, Lucas Miller led the Knights' trio, winning the 8K race in 25:10, with teammates Tris Dodge and Cameron Meikle close behind in 25:23 and 25:33, respectively. St. Thomas Karl Wachter (25:39) and St. Olaf's William Anderson (25:50) rounded out the top five.I
The Cardinals close out their 2018 season on Nov. 10, heading to Waverly, Iowa, to take part in the NCAA Central Regional, hosted by Wartburg College.
