Cardinals place 6th at Luther Invite

DECORAH, Iowa — Sunday afternoon's second round of the Luther Invitational was the final tune-up for the Saint Mary's University of Minnesota women's golf team in preparation for next weekend's Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships.
 
And the Cardinals appear ready to go.
 
Jessica Massimo (Kenosha, Wis.) followed up her opening-round 91 with a 90 on Sunday for a 181 total in leading the Cardinals to a sixth-place showing at the 36-hole Luther Invitational.
 
Annie Lorsung (Amery, Wis.) was second to Massimo for the Cardinals, shooting rounds of 94-99—193, followed by Michaela Heuckendorf (Plymouth, Minn. / 96-100—196), Annika Blesener (North St. Paul, Minn. / 102-105—207), and Dani Stevens (Delano, Minn. / 109-111—220).
 
The University of Dubuque came away with the team title in the two-day even, shooting a 655, seven shots in front of runner-up Wartburg. Luther (676) was thid, with Dubuque Blue (738) and Nebraska Wesleyan (745) rounding out the top five.
 
Dubuque's Megan Gille, Brooke Klostermann of Wartburg and Luther's Morgan Kranz all shared medalist honors with 158 totals, two shots in front of Dubuque's Daniella Miranda.
 
The Cardinals are back in action next Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, taking part in the 54-hole, season-ending Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament, held at Pebble Creek Golf Course in Becker, Minn.
