BECKER, Minn. — Saint Mary's University of Minnesota's
Jessica Massimo (Kenosha, Wis.) and
Annie Lorsung (Amery, Wis.) made their Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Golf Championships debut Saturday afternoon.
But if there were any first-championship jitters, the Cardinal freshmen certainly didn't show them — or let them affect their game.
Massimo and Lorsung each carded team-best rounds of 97 to lead Saint Mary's to an 11
th-place finish after the opening day of the 54-hole event.
Along with the pair of 97s, Saint Mary's also got a 99 from
Dani Stevens (Delano, Minn.), a 105 from
Annika Blesener (North St. Paul, Minn.) and a 110 from
Michaela Heuckendorf (110).
The Cardinals return to Pebble Creek Golf Course on Sunday for the second round of the three-day, 54-hole MIAC Championships.
