WAVERLY, Iowa —
Jessica Massimo (Kenosha, Wis.) entered the opening round of the Wartburg Invitational having carded the team's low round in each of the Saint Mary's University of Minnesota women's golf team's three competitive rounds this eason.
Make that 4-for-4.
Massimo shot a team-best 92 to help the Cardinals to a 16
th-place finish after the opening round of the two-day event at Prairie Links Golf Course.
Along with Massimo's 92, the Cardinals also got a 98 from
Annie Lorsung (Amery, Wis.), a 101 from
Dani Stevens (Delano, Minn.), a 105 from
Michaela Heuckendorf (Plymouth, Minn.), and a 108 from
Megan Larson (Galesville, Wis.).
Carleton is sitting in first in the team standings after Day 1, shooting a 300, seven shots better than Grinnell. UW-Oshkosh is third (308), followed by UW-Stout (312) and UW-Whitewater (316).
Carleton's Kristin Mlyagi and Ziyi Wang earned Day 1 medalist honors, shooting a two-over-par 74, one shot in front of five others, including teammates Abby Euyang, Alexis Chan, UW-Oshkosh's Hannah Braun, and Grinnell's Nina Kouchi and Vidushi Sinha.
The Cardinals return to Prairie Links Golf Course on Sunday for the second round of the two-day tournament.
