NORTHFIELD, Minn. — Through the entire indoor season, Saint Mary's University of Minnesota's Rachel Ohde (Chetek, Wis.) was a force to be reckoned with — finishing no lower than second in any of the Cardinals' six indoor meets.

And the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships proved to be no different.

Ohde cleared 1.65 meters on her first attempt — but came up empty on all three of her attempts at 1.68 meters — en route to an All-MIAC second-place finish Saturday afternoon.

And the Cardinal sophomore wasn't the only one bringing home All-MIAC honors, as Desmond Steward (Bayside, Wis.) claimed his second third-place finish of the championships with a leap of 14.07 meters in the triple jump, and David Kemper (Woodbury, Minn.) — competing in his final indoor conference championships — equaled that third-place effort in the pole vault with a mark of 4.32 meters.

Led by Ohde's second-place showing, the Cardinal women placed 11th in the two-day event, while the Saint Mary's men — behind Steward's third-place double and a third third by Kemper — finished ninth.

Steward — who missed equaling the school record in the triple by one-half inch — also teamed with Kyle Lichttenegger (De Pere, Wis.), Matt Boone (Mindoro, Wis.), and Andrew Allemann (Cochrane, Wis.) to help the Cardinals to a sixth-place effort in the 4 x 200 relay, stopping the clock in 1:31.63.

Lichttenegger capped off his busy indoor championships — which also included a fourth in the 60, a 12th in the long jump and a 13th in the high jump — by placing sixth in the 200, breaking the tape in 22.60.

The Cardinal women's 4 x 200 relay team also put together an impressive performance, as Sydney Klausler (Lakeville, Minn.), Alica Schurrer (Forest Lake, Minn.), Hannah Crowe (Baraboo), Kynzie Smedsrud (Luverne, Minn.) teams to post a fifth-place time of 1:48.29. Klausler, Crowe, Smedsrud, and Schurrer also teamed to place seventh in the 4 x 400, stopping the clock in 4:12.58.

Klausler — who opened her first collegiate MIAC Championships with a sixth-place jump of 5.28m in the long jump and a time of 8.16 in the 60 on Friday — ran to a seventh-place finish in the 200, posting a time of 26.55.

Others competing for the Cardinals Saturday included Boone, who ran a 23.46 in the 200; Ben Borash (Bowlus, Minn.), who posted a time of 1:26.43 in the 600; Dean Marlin, who recorded a 12.23m leap in the triple jump; and Tyler Amy (Chatfield, Minn.), who delivered a throw of 13.19m in the shot put.

Several Cardinals will compete at the UW-Stevens Point Last Chance Meet next Saturday in hopes of claiming a spot in the NCAA Division III Indoor National Championships in Geneva, Ohio on March 8-9.

The Cardinals' outdoor season will kick off on March 30, when they host the Dingels/Brueggen Open at the Saint Mary's track and field complex.
