WINONA, Minn. —
Jessica Massimo (Kenosha, Wis.) turned in her best performance as a collegiate golfer Sunday afternoon, as the Saint Mary's University freshman posted an 84 to lead the Cardinals to a fifth-place finish at the Saint Mary's Invitational.
Massimo, who posted a two-day 179 over the par-71 The Bridges Golf Course — adding a first-round 95 to her career-best second-day 84 — placed 10th individually.
Macalester's Kiwa Anisman took home medalist honors, shooting rounds of 86-78—164, finishing one shot in front of UW-La Crosse's Maija Tanberg (81-84—165) and two shots ahead of Viterbo's Bailey Schmidt (86-80—166.
UW-La Crosse captured the team title with a 711 score (366-345), earning an eight-shot win over runner-up St. Scholastica (365-354—719). Viterbo was third (370-361—731), followed by Augsburg (398-385—783), Saint Mary's (399-389—788), and UW-Superior (418-390—808).
Madyson Ulrey (North Manchester, Ind.) was second to Massimo for the Cardinals, shooting rounds of 97-99 to post a 196 total.
Celeste Van Klein (Lake City, Minn.) added back-to-back 100s, with
Dani Stevens (Delano, Minn. / 111-106—217) and
Cassie Sepp (Duluth / 107-115—222) rounding out the Cardinals' lineup.
The Cardinals are back in action next Saturday and Sunday, traveling to the Oneota Golf and Country Club in Decorah, Iowa, to take part in the 36-hole Luther Invitational.
