MENOMONIE, Wis. — After putting together seven first-place finishes — and 23 Top 3 performances — Saint Mary's University track and field coach
Niels Anderson was left to ponder, "What do you do for an encore?"
The answer?
One school record and 11 top-10 finishes at Saturday's UW-Stout Open.
Not a bad encore at all.
Kyle Lichttenegger led the way for the Cardinals, breaking the school record in the long jump with a leap of 7.32 meters — which currently puts the Saint Mary's senior third in the nation — while Rachel Ohde led the charge for the Saint Mary's women with a third-place effort in the high jump, clearing 1.58 meters.
Garrett Jackson delivered a fourth-place showing in the 400 (51.87) and
Thomas Walker added a fourth in the triple jump (12.60m) and a fifth in the long jump (6.39m) for the Saint Mary's men, with
Matt Boone (fifth, 200 / 23.37),
Jon Meaden (seventh, 800, 2:02.22),
Tyler Amy (ninth, shot put, 13.94m), and
Sean Curran (10th, weight throw (14.28m).
On the women's side, Anna Swanson was sixth in the 800 (2:30.47) and Sydney Klausler added a sixth in the long jump (5.14m).
The Cardinals are back on the track next Saturday, as Saint Mary's travels to Menomonie, Wis., to take part in the UW-Stout Open.
