NORTHFIELD, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University men's and women's track and field teams made their first appearance at the Carleton Meet of the Hearts a memorable one Saturday afternoon.

And the Cardinals made quite a first impression.

Kyle Lichttenegger broke his own school record in both the 55 and the 200 — and the Cardinals posted five first-place finishes and 15 Top 5s.

With Lichttenegger leading the charge, the Cardinal men placed third, while the Saint Mary's women finished eighth.

Lichttenegger posted a school-record tie of 6.55 in the 55, and blew away his old mark in the 200, stopping the clock in 22.36 en route to winning both events. Christian Beamer and Sean Curran also recorded first-place efforts for the Saint Mary's men, with Beamer winning the high jump (2.00m), while Curran grabbed top honors in the weight throw (15.28m).

Matt Boone (200, 23.25), Thomas Walker (long jump, 6.44m), and Tyler Amy (shot put, 13.70m) delivered second-place performances, with Coleton Strupp (third, pole vault, 3.67m), Garrett McGlaughlin (third, long jump, 6.11m), Garrett Jackson (third, 400, 42.47), and Jon Meaden (fifth, 800, 2:02.70) also recording Top 5 showings.

Sydney Klausler recorded the Cardinals' other first-place finish, winning the 200 in 26.69 to lead the way for the Cardinal women. Alicia Schurrer (200, 29.12), Anna Swanson (600, 2:29.88), and Rachel Ohde (high jump, 1.54m) all chipped in fourth-place efforts.

The Cardinals have one more meet before the indoor season-ending MIAC Championships on Feb. 27-29, returning to action next Friday, heading to Mankato, Minn., for the Minnesota State-Mankato Maverick Invitational.
