  SAINT MARY'S CARDINALS SCOUTING REPORT
The Cardinals — who closed out the pandemic-shortened 2020 season with an 8-4 record — dropped their first two games of the 2021 season, falling to Luther 15-0 and 11-2 at the Rochester Dome in Rochester, Minn., last Sunday … Mackenzie Carey (Prescott, Wis.) and Haley Williams (Littleton, Colo.) collected the Cardinals' two Game 1 hits against Luther last Sunday, while Amy Kulaga (Riverside, Ill.) and Cassie Sutor (Chicago, Ill.) each had two hits in the nightcap. … Sutor and Kulaga enter Thursday's matchup against Northwestern hitting .667, with both going 2-for-3 vs. Luther last Sunday, while Williams (.500) and Carey (.400) each had hits in both games vs. the Norse. … Lexi Brooks (Searcy, Ark.) and Williams drove in SMU's two runs in their opening DH vs. Luther last Sunday. … All 11 of the Cardinals' hits against Luther last Sunday were singles. … Justine Schultz (Winona, Minn.), Amber Chow (West St. Paul, Minn.), and Erin Sullivan () — who all closed out 2020 riding five-game hitting streaks — were held hitless in the opener against Luther last Sunday.
  NORTHWESTERN EAGLES SCOUTING REPORT
Like Saint Mary's, the Eagles come into Thursday's nonconference doubleheader having been swept by Luther in their last outing, falling 10-1 and 8-0 last Saturday. … After going 1-1 in their first two contests of 2021 — a 9-6 loss to Buena Vista and a 6-4 win over Bethany Lutheran on Feb. 20 — the Eagles have dropped four straight. … Northwestern has been outscored 42-12 in its five losses this season — including 40-6 during their current four-game slide. … Ellie Ronning is hitting a team-best .462 (6-for-13), while Briggs Carlson (.389), Telma Roesler (.350), and Shelby Stoll (.333) are also hitting above .300 through six games. … Carlson and Roesler lead the team with seven hits each, while Carlson owns the team lead in RBIs (6) and total bases (10). … The Eagles have belted seven extra-base hits — including one triple and one home run. … Samantha Burkhart (1-2, 6.20 ERA) has tossed a team-leading 14.2 innings in the pitcher's circle, with Diana Boyce (0-2, 10.50 ERA) is close behind with 12.0 IP. … Burkhart owns a team-high three starts, has two complete games and one strikeout. Boyce, meanwhile, has made two starts, has recorded UNW's lone save, and has three strikeouts. … Carlson (0-1, 10.11 ERA) has made three pitching appearances thus far this season, throwing nine innings and striking out a team-best four batters.
