COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University track and field teams took their show on the road for the first time this season on Friday.
And home or away, one thing remained constant — the Cardinals are an impressive lot.
Jon Meaden (Rosemount, Minn.),
Rachel Ohde (Chetek, Wis.),
Caroline Gearin (Osceola, Wis.), and
Anna Swanson (Osceola, Wis.) all picked up event victories, as the Cardinals recorded 19 top-five performances at the Saint John's Invitational.
Meaden delivered a time of 4:06.73 in winning the men's 1,500, while Ohde cleared 1.57 meters to claim the women's high jump crown, Gearin stopped the clock in 1:01.20 to win the 400, and Swanson uncorked a toss of 37.92 to win the javelin.
Along with the winning performances by Ohde, Gearin, and Swanson, the Cardinal women also got a second-place leap of 5.20 meters in the long jump by
Sydney Klausler (Lakeville, Minn.) and a third-place time of 5:11.07 from
Amanda Tuvey (West St. Paul, Minn.) in the 1,500.
Gearin and
Samantha Kubes (New Prague, Minn.) locked up fourth-place finishes in the pole vault (3.10m) and shot put (10.95m), respectively, and Klausler (200, 27.57),
Mirijana Ganley (Nisswa, Minn. / 400, 1:03.23),
Bailey Joens (Osage, Iowa / javelin, 27.01m), and
Lilly Maul (Madelia, Minn. / long jump, 4.41m) all delivered fifth-place efforts). The SMU 4x100 relay team also recorded a top-five showing, clocking a time of 51.04 to place third.
Sean Curran (Appleton, Wis.) delivered a third-place showing in the hammer throw (44.20m) and a fifth in the discus (39.21m), while Kyle Lichttenegger (De Pere, Wis.) was third in the javelin (44.20m), and Jacob Homan () and Matt Boone (Mindoro, Wis.) posted fourth-place efforts in the shot put (13.28m) and 100 (11.04), respectively. The Cardinals' 4x100 relay team also turned in a stellar showing, placing second with a time of 42.57.
Saint Mary's is now off until April 10, when they head to St. Peter, Minn., to take part in the Lee Krough Invitational, hosted by Gustavus.
