NORTHFIELD, Minn. — For the second time in this indoor season, the Saint Mary's University track and field teams made the trek to Northfield, Minn., Saturday.

And for the second time this indoor season, the Cardinals felt right at home.

The Cardinals — who picked up first-place efforts from both Samantha Kubes (New Prague, Minn.) and Garrett Jackson (West Linn, Ore.) and added six other Top 2 performances at the St. Olaf Quadrangular during their first visit to Northfield two weeks ago — delivered 14 Top 5 performances at the 14-team Carleton Meet of the Hearts Saturday.

Saint Mary's set the tone early, getting a second-place time of 1:33.33 by the men's 4x200 relay team of Oliver Anderson (Rochester, Minn.), Jackson, Coleton Strupp (Holmen, Wis.), Dan Cooper (Belle Plaine, Minn.) — in the very first event of the day.

The Cardinal women's 4x200 relay team of Sydney Klausler (Lakeville, Minn.), Caroline Gearin (Osceola, Wis.), Nathalie Freire (Bloomington, Minn.), and Lilly Mall (Madelia, Minn.) duplicated that feat in event No. 2, stopping the clock with a second-place time of 1:51.03

And those two second-place efforts proved to be just the tip of the iceberg for the Cardinals.

Kubes picked up her second first-place showing in two trips to Northfield, winning the shot put with a toss of 12.12 meters, while also adding a second in the weight throw (14.23m). Gearin notched a third in the pole vault (3.21m) and a fifth in the 200 (27.80) and Freire recorded a fifth in the pole vault (3.21m).

On the men's side, Aidan Gatz (Elburn, Ill.) owned the SMU men's lone first-place finish, winning the pole vault by clearing 4.42, while Sean Curran (Appleton, Wis.) posted a second-place double-double, taking the No. 2 spot in both the weight throw (16.02m) and the shot put (13.24m).

Jackson recorded a second in the 200 (23.02) and Isaiah Brindamour (Holmen, Wis.) delivered a second in the 800 (2:02.23), with Strupp chipping in a third in the pole vault (4.27m) and Frankie Bakalars (La Crosse, Wis.) adding a fourth in the weight throw (15.10m).

Saint Mary's is back in action for one more meet before the conference championships, as the Cardinals head to Mankato, Minn., next Friday to take part in the MSU-Mankato Maverick Invitaitonal.
